Trenchless water main repairs have revolutionized the plumbing industry, providing a more efficient and less invasive solution to traditional digging methods.

These repairs involve minimal excavation, preserving your landscape and reducing the disruption typically caused by extensive digging. But how does the process work, and how are repairs made?

Pipe Bursting

Pipe bursting is one of the most common and effective trenchless repair methods. This process involves creating two small access points on both ends of the damaged pipe.

Next, a steel bursting head is sent through the access point and breaks through the old pipe while pulling a new pipe behind it. A hydraulic system draws the bursting head through the length of the existing pipeline, ensuring a seamless replacement without extensive digging.

The main advantage of this method is that it can fully repair and replace sections of your pipe.

Pipe Relining

Another popular method is pipe relining, also known as cured-in-place pipelining (CIPP). This technique involves inserting a flexible lining material made of polymer and epoxy into the damaged pipe through a single-entry point.

Once in place, this liner hardens to form a new inner layer within the existing pipe. It effectively seals any cracks or holes present in the original structure.

This method is more economical and quicker compared to traditional trenching approaches, making it perfect for addressing minor leaks and damages without causing too much disruption for homeowners.

Directional Drilling

Directional drilling represents another advanced trenchless drain repair option ideally suited for longer stretches of damaged pipes or when working around obstacles like trees or buildings.

This process uses high-tech machinery to precisely drill horizontally from one point to another beneath the ground’s surface. After creating an initial pilot hole using guided boring equipment, workers enlarge this pathway using reamers before installing a new pipe.

When it comes to trenchless repairs, there are many effective methods that can address damage in a minimally invasive way.

One last thing we want to add – make sure a thorough camera inspection is performed of your main line before any work is done. Trenchless repairs should only be initiated after the problem is discovered.
